Phi Phi islands are a group of islands in Thailand. They consist of six islands which include Phi Phi Leh, Phi Phi Don, Koh Yung, Ko Mai Phai, and Ko Bida Nok. They lie on south east of Phuket and they are a part of Hat Nopparat Thara-Ko Phi Phi National park which is the home to abundant corals and the marine life’s.They are located in the Krabi province and cover an area of approximately twelve square kilometres. They are found between Phuket which is the largest island and straight of Malacca. These islands lie on the administratively part of the Krabi province. They can be reached by the use of speedboats or the long tail boats which are often from either Krabi town or various piers in the Phuket province. Its population now is between two thousand and three thousand people.
Phi Phi Don was initially populated by the Muslim fishermen in the late nineteen forty’s which later became a plantation of coconut. These islands came into the world’s prominence when Ko Phi Phi Leh became a location for the 2000 British American film, The Beach.
The climate of Ko Phi Phi is influenced by the tropical monsoon winds and there are two seasons where we have the rainy season that starts in May till the month of December and a hot season that starts from December and ends in the month of April. The temperatures range between seventeen and thirty seven degrees Celsius. The airports that are nearest to these islands are Trang, Krabi and Phuket. These three airports are connected directly to roads and boats. There are several ferry boats that get to Ko Phi Phi coming from Ko Lanta Phuket and Krabi town starting from eight thirty in the morning and the last boats leaves Krabi and Phuket at Two thirty in the afternoon. There are specific drop off points along the piers for dive boats, supply boats and longtail boats hence making the pier to be very efficient during the peak seasons. Today Ko Phi Phi is considered to be Thailand’s most famous tourist attraction sites for snorkelling, scuba diving, kayaking and the other recreational activities in the marine.
In this island there is a small hospital where emergencies are handled and the main reason why it was established was to stabilize the reported emergencies and then evacuate those emergencies to Phuket hospital. This hospital is located between Ton Sai towers and Phi Phi Cabana hotel which is a five to seven minutes’ walk when coming from the main pier.
More than a thousand tourists reach Phi Phi daily excluding those who arrive by the use of a speedboat or yatch .There is an organised procedure of collecting all the waste materials through a private company in the island on a daily basis taking the waste to the mainland in Krabi to be disposed of. This helps in ensuring that the island maintains the required levels of cleanliness. This duty of hiring a private company to dispose of the waste matter helps in creating jobs hence helps in improving the livelihoods of the specific people.
In conclusion The Phi Phi islands are interesting sites for visiting during the holidays.
