It’s 4 am in the morning 9 of us was zooming with heavy packed luggage along with us at Rajiv Gandhi International airport. Post one hour we were cruising at 10000ft, somewhere around 6:30 we realized were in Guwahati airport in short nap time. After making the mandatory Uber ride to our Airbnb house, we were welcomed by 2 cute four-legged pals. Lucy is a golden hairy dog which looks the dog in TV commercials and there was a small pup which was tied almost something similar to a thread.
To our surprise our trip is going to be started with a temple, all the elders in the family were happy after knowing that we are going to the famous Kamakya Temple. One among the 51 Shakti Pithas.
The Garbhagriha of the temple is compact, dark and reach by serious of stone steps. After entering the cave you will see a stone slope. It is the vulva-moulded gloom that is venerated as the goddess Kamakhya and considered sacred.
One of the must try a place in Guwahati is “The heritage Khorika” that place is a pure delight to your taste buds get Pompi fry fish, the small fried fishes whose eating way resembled the way we eat Kurkure and Lays. You will never when you have finished the packet.
The night is here. We went back to our hotel and got some sound sleep.

Fresh as a daisy we felt pumped in the morning, we got a Toyota 11 seater vehicle which helped us to feed our instant tourist, who wishes to stop for every one hour to savour the beauty and nature of places which we pass by. The target is clear, to soak into the vibe of exploring the beautiful nature in and around you.
I recollect stopping at many places to greet the great Rhinos strolling casually in the greens and on our way we waved many “hello”s to the elephants which greeted us on the way, carrying a huge load on their backs but still elegant in their strides. We felt ready with our travel caps on.
We checked in the room and went to ticket booking counter for the famous jumbo safari Kaziranga sanctuary. The cost of the safari is Rs:1500 per head which is super worthy, trust me. Consider yourself lucky if you get the ticket because people generally wait in long 2-hour ques. Being known about the situation we got our tickets pre-booked by our hotel guy so that we won’t lose time in standing in the queue.
Its 8 am in the morning the sun is still down while we were already chasing rhinos on an elephant back.
Now, this is an absolute experience, I call it as an affair with nature. Its thin dark and lull.
You will see a group of 3 calves who totter close to their moms and demand meeting the rhinos, we were all mutual excited to see the rhino.
The quietness is hypnotizing aside from the stir of the grass once in a while caused by moments of the elephant herd, followed by a long stretch of silence and waiting we were almost a meter far from two huge Rhinos, they looked majestic.
We were in Shillong today and the new year’s vibe can be felt everywhere. I still remember the colorful bustling streets packed with people, joy, and happiness all around. We explored the place and had momos for dinner.
The day after the dip in mercury to 0 degree Celsius, the strike of the morning sun on your almost frozen body is an eternal feel. So to harvest it the most we used to go for morning walks which turned into a squad’s morning ritual very soon, filled with the chill breeze and our morning smiles.
We said Hello to our inner adrenaline by doing a 1km valley zip lining, imagine being airborne for 2 minutes to see the view of lush green valley till the end of our mortal sight while cold air buzzing in your head. Moments like these help you understand what true happiness is all about.

We enrooted to Cherrapunjee which is 300km far from Kaziranga, this place houses the only living root bridges made from rubber trees in the world. The place is locally called as Sohra.
Welcomed by TrynaElaka Eco- Tourism reaching the living roots bridges after 7-hour trek is a herculine task but it gifted us with many stories to narrate to our kids. After crossing this place and if you can still trek some few kilometers you are welcomed by the earthly heaven of Rainbow waterfalls, the place where you can swim under rainbows, literally or do a cool dab too.

Dawki river stay
This is the best part in our whole journey, to reach our stay we need to travel 2 km in small man rowed boats, after traveling for 20 minutes on the crystal water you will see a group of 30 tents on a river bed. Dawkiriver is the place where boats fly not float. Due to crystal clear water and absolute transparency, a magical effect is created.
We used to sleep in a sleeping bag every night, no mattress can match this warm comfort. The constant fluttering sounds of the tent all night acts as a lullaby to the tired traveling body. A typical day at Dawkiriver is to wake up in early hours, walk on the river pebble bed hand in hand with rising morning sun. Run along the cliff and then do the faith leap of your life.

New year eve
The party started early today, campfires started at 5 pm, bbq and Maggie was being served and groovy music across the river banks, resonating with the high trees on the mountains all around. Everything in the world suddenly felt perfect and suttle.
After the count down was over we were served with drinks and dinner, many people were dancing on the dance floor till 2 am in the morning.
The celebration is not over yet. All of sudden a bright light flashes up in sky travels down to us and lands on the big screen like structure, after a few seconds the eyes read “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara” there was a loud cheer among the happy crowd.
Campfire and drinks were shifted to the screening place, many people brought their sleeping bags and started using them as rugs, self-cocooning themselves as the temperature dipped along the night. The josh when Hrithik is chasing moves in senorita was humongous. Farhan Akhtar’s poems feed your soul with calm and still thoughts throughout, unforeseen laughs were in the air when ”Bhagwati” the handbag was on the screen.
Slowly the reality dawned at us, that we are heading back to Hyderabad.
In the wake of the sun, we were in the air flying back home, all those long treks to breathtaking waterfalls, that moment when you are on the living root bridges and of course the multiple squad dab photos ran swiftly in our travel heads.
And then we started plans for our next year trip while on the way home……already.
